This 2016 BMW K1600GT was brought in to have a number of functional upgrades installed to protect both machine and rider.
The customer had already researched and decided upon the parts intended to safeguard the machine, selecting a company called Ilium Works [link] based out of California that specializes in BMW aftermarket parts and accessories. Upon receiving the parts, we were thoroughly impressed with both the fit and quality. The first part we installed was the engine guard. The installation went seamlessly due to the workmanship of the part and the inclusion of the proper hardware and fasteners.
We then installed the highway pegs. While most highway pegs simply clamp on, these had a hole on the engine guard and a dowel on the clamp- therefore preventing the pegs from sliding/turning/moving in undesired ways.
Next, we installed the black powder-coated rear guard bars as well as shift and brake extensions.
The final Ilium Works product we installed was the side-stand foot enlarger. Although this part seems small and insignificant, it serves an important purpose. For those new to riding, some have learned the hard way that parking ones motorcycle in grass, dirt, sand, or even hot asphalt can have the unintended consequence of ones motorcycle falling over. The wider footprint helps prevent these unnecessary and often costly damages.
Now that we’d fully defended the motorcycle, it was time to add a layer of preventative protection for the rider. A major concern the customer hoped to address was the poor brake lighting visibility on the stock setup. We scoured through options and eventually landed on Signal Dynamics BackOFF LED Light Bar and License Plate Frame. As you can see in the photograph, these additions significantly brightened up the rear end, hopefully increasing visibility and thus safety for the rider.
We’re pleased to see this inline 6 cylinder power-house return to the road better equipped to handle all that life throws it’s way.
In today’s bustling world of technology and multi-tasking, it is no secret that more individuals on the road than ever are partaking in distracted driving.
Equipping yourself and your bike to allow the highest chance of both visibility and safety is undoubtedly a worthwhile investment in our books!
