While we’re known for our ability to diagnosis and repair machines in need of work, we also get in the occasional job where none of the work is a necessity, but rather a splurge-filled upgrade. These jobs are a nice change in the routine for the mechanics because installing plug-and-play, shiny, new parts gives an instant and guaranteed sense of satisfaction.
A customer brought us his 2012 Harley-Davidson FLHR103 shortly after acquiring it for numerous performance and aesthetic upgrades.
First, we installed a Vance & Hines Carbon Fiber VO2 Air Intake. We really prefer the look and function of this air cleaner cover over the OEM stock version with its sturdy shape and free-flowing design. Aside from the cosmetic value, this is a necessary upgrade to improve air flow. When you allow an engine to breathe better it will improve power as well as fuel economy.
Along with the air intake, we installed a Vance & Hines Big Shot Dual Exhaust System. Again improving efficiency and performance, if the air intake serves as a way to allow the engine to take a deep breath, the exhaust then serves as a way to deeply exhale. Plus, it looks pretty sweet and awakens that deep Harley rumble that we all know and love.
No fear, techies- this job also included a Vance & Hines Fuelpak installation, which should make your inner nerd glee with joy. A Fuelpak will allow you to reprogram the computer in your motorcycle, fine tuning the new parts to perform at their peak. We’ve installed dozens of different brand/model fuel tuners over the years, and will hands down vote this one as the most user-friendly yet. With a plug-and-play installation (versus the older style where you had to physically hook the bike up to a PC), and an extremely approachable app- even John felt comfortable with it after only a few minutes- this gives you all of the features you want and none of the fuss. From the app you can access real-time sensor data, including: Throttle Position Sensor, Spark Advance, Fuel Economy, Torque, Injection Duty Cycle, Air/Fuel Ratio, Engine Temp, and many more.
Lastly, we installed a new set of Sport Chrome wheels, installed new wheel bearings, and swapped the tires and brakes. It’s no surprise that the Sport Chrome wheels are rapidly becoming one of the most requested aesthetic upgrades for our HD customers with the company’s solid reputation and show-stopping products.
